Here is one of Lloyd “The King of Leglocks” Irvin’s long lost EARLY fights. The year is 1997 and Lloyd was just a blue belt. This was the time when people chanted “jiu-jitsu, jiu-jitsu, jiu-jitsu” when a jiu-jitsu fighter won a match. This was also the time when Lloyd was tapping people in MMA with leglocks over a decade ago. Now a decade later his students are doing the same thing.

Fight Spirit Championship was Ontarios second sanctioned professional MMA event. The Eevent held its first card on Saturday, December 15 which included a special appearance by UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

The FSC was sanctioned under the Grand River Athletics Commission under the Iroquois Nation. This avoids the necessity of being sanctioned by the province’s Ontario Athletic Commission which considers MMA illegal under the Criminal Code (http://www.cageplay.com/blog/2008/12/16/fsc-december-15-results/.

In the main event, Anderson Silva’s student Andre Galvao defeated Mikey Gomez by Armbar. Here is the video:

Maia lands a left, right combination and shoots a single that is stuffed by Quarry. Maia scrambles after dropping to his back and takes the top position. Maia easily advances to mount. Quarry gives up his back while trying to escape. The Brazilian locks on a body triangle and punches the head with his right hand. He sinks his right arm under the chin of Quarry and punches with his left hand. It sets up the rear-naked choke beautifully, as Quarry taps quickly once the hold is sunk. Impressive win from Demian Maia. The official time is 2:13 of the first.
